Mark L. Prophet
People remember Mark Prophet as deeply spiritual and at the same time fun loving, spontaneous and practical, a down-to-earth person who loved to talk to people from every walk of life.
The Ascended Master El Morya first appeared to Mark when he was a young man, but unable to reconcile the turbaned Eastern adept with his lifelong devotion to Jesus, Mark dismissed him.
Years later, having realized that the path of the Ascended Master was also the path of Jesus, Mark accepted Morya as his teacher and took on the rigors of discipleship in the tradition of the East. Mark also studied the teachings of Paramahansa Yogananda and was for a time associated with Self-Realization Fellowship as well as the Rosicrucian Order.
After serving in the Air Force in World War II, Mark lectured on Christian and Eastern mysticism and the Masters of Wisdom from 1945 until 1952, when he began publishing a series of letters for his students called Ashram Notes, dictated by El Morya.
In 1957 El Morya called Mark to Washington, D.C., to found The Summit Lighthouse and publish the teachings of the Ascended Masters. On August 8, 1958, El Morya dictated the first of the Pearls of Wisdom to Mark, launching a worldwide movement. In February 1973, Mark delivered his final dictation which was given at the Santa Barbara Motherhouse in California. Not long after that, Mark ascended to reunite with God. He is known today as the Ascended Master Lanello.
Lanello is truly our friend of Light. He says, “Don’t forget to call to me, for Lanello is my name!”
Elizabeth Clare Prophet
From modest beginnings, Elizabeth Clare Prophet rose to become one of the world’s most compelling, charismatic and controversial spiritual leaders. Her great desire was to share a spiritual path that would take true seekers, in the tradition of the masters of the Far East, as far as they could go and needed to go to meet their true teachers, the Ascended Masters, the archangels and their own Higher Self, face-to-face.
At age eighteen she opened a book on the Ascended Masters that she had seen in her parents’ library for years but never had taken off the shelf. She found herself face to face with a picture of the Ascended Master Saint Germain. “This was the turning point of my life,” she recalled later. She spent the next four years searching for someone who could lead her to Saint Germain.
On April 22, 1961, she attended a meeting of The Summit Lighthouse in Boston and met its leader, Mark L. Prophet. She recognized him as the teacher she had been looking for all of her life, the one who would lead her on her spiritual path. Elizabeth entered a period of intense spiritual discipline and inner soul awakening in her training as a messenger. Three years later she received Saint Germain’s anointing, and began delivering prophetic messages from the Ascended Masters. Mark and Elizabeth were married in 1963.
Elizabeth Clare Prophet never claimed to be a master herself, but only the Masters’ instrument. She saw herself as a servant of the light in all the Ascended Masters’ students and in all people. Lovingly called ‘Mother’ or ‘Guru Ma’ by her devotees, Elizabeth taught on a wide variety of spiritual subjects: angels and archangels, karma and reincarnation, healing and wholeness, soul mates, twin flames and relationships, and practical spirituality, to name just a few. At her transition in 2009, she left a wealth of unpublished teachings, writings and lectures which The Summit Lighthouse is currently working to publish. Her published works have been translated into over 30 languages.
What is a Messenger?
God has never stopped talking to his people. Whether through an oracle, a prophet, an amanuensis, or a messenger, there has been ‘progressive revelation,’ divinely inspired ways of receiving messages from God.
There were the oracles of Delphi in ancient Greece, seers who interpreted signs sent by God. And there was the I Ching of ancient China in the Zhou Dynasty. The Dalai Lama in Tibet consults an oracle known as Nechung Oracle. There were prophets spoken of in the Bible, such as the Prophet Samuel, Isiah, Ezekiel, etc. There have been emanuensis who write down the word of God. In modern times, Helena Roerich and Madame Blavatsky were emanuensis. And there have been other messengers, such as Moses, Jesus, Muhammad, Guy and Edna Ballard, and Mark and Elizabeth Prophet, who were not only prophets by name, but messengers of the Ascended Masters.
Messengers receive the word of God through various means. Guy and Edna Ballard received them over a visible light and sound ray. Mark and Elizabeth received them through the raising of their vibrations to mesh with the consciousness of the Master. They entered into the mind of the Master who spoke to them.
Elizabeth says: “During a dictation my consciousness is accelerated, or elevated, so that it can mesh with the consciousness of the Ascended Master who is speaking through me. The sphere of my higher consciousness actually meshes with the sphere of consciousness of the Ascended Master. In that moment, there is the release of the Word. The master uses my voice as the instrument to bring forth his teaching.”
These messages, known as “dictations,” contain the words of the heavenly host, as well as a transfer of light. While receiving these dictations, the messengers were fully conscious, yet in an exalted state. The messages occurred through the conveyance of the Holy Spirit and not through psychicism or spiritualism (where a disembodied spirit takes over the body of a channeler).
Mark L. Prophet and Elizabeth Clare Prophet were pioneers in modern spirituality. For more than forty years, they set forth the Teachings of the Ascended Masters, the immortal saints of East and West who attained union with God in the ritual of the ascension. They taught that the essential spiritual truths at the heart of all the world’s religions are the same, and they showed how spiritual seekers from any background can walk a path towards reunion with God.
Devotees of both Lanello and Guru Ma attempt to practice the teachings that they brought forth from the Ascended Masters in order to improve their lives, their health, and their relationship with God. The Messengers teach that the Teachings of the Ascended Masters are timeless. Devotees know this to be true as they experience these teachings on a daily basis by living them.
